The Cub Scouts go to Day Camp 2014

We choose to take our Cub Scouts to Day Camp in Forsyth SE of Poplar.  Since it is a 3.5 hr. drive we had to leave near 6:30 AM.  So much of the ride down looked like this.

We rotated to eight stations throughout the day.

Hyde identification and casting a footprint.

Fire safety and fire building skills.

Gun safety and shooting.

Archery was a favorite.
Soil Types thus the dirty hands.
These two are brothers Curtis and Ethan

Ok, so I took the challenge and tried the obstacle course.
 Not bad for a grandma.

And "no" our 5 boys did not sleep on the way home.

The Newton's Visit

Our daughter Sheri and family Barney, Gavin and Chase traveled a long way to visit us.

We were at Zone Conf. in Billings when they arrived late that night.  They followed us the remaining 5 hrs. to Poplar.

We had a short 2.5 days with them but really enjoyed their visit.

They brought tastes of home, with Cache Valley cheese, Malt-O-Meal cereals and even a bouquet of peonies in a vase from our Trenton yard.

We had time to take a tour of the town pointing out some of the highlights.  Sheri, Gavin, Chase and I visited some of the small businesses that are within a block of our little home Main Street Grocery, Traders Inn, Independence Bank and Treasures Gift shop in the bank.
We also went to the College bookstore and then visited the Poplar Museum which houses the first jail.

Chase and Sheri check the inside of the jail out.   Goodness they look desperate.

Of course Elder Allsop had work lined up.  We hadn't had time to put the Youth Garden fencing together.  Barney and Sheri were lots of help standing the fencing panels to enclose the square foot gardens.

Gavin and Chase mowed the entire field with our hard to push mower.  That was such a help.

Brother Hank Nelson also came and what a work force we were.

Sheri and I helped mix the soil mixture in a trap before moving it into the growing area of the pallets.

Barney worked with the watering system by getting it functioning and the hose strung out.

On Friday we traveled to Ft. Peck Reservoir.  We toured the plant, visited the Interpretive Museum and had a nice lunch back at their travel trailer.

There are various animals on display as well as giant dinosaurs.

Chase liked the fish tank.
The Interpretative Center is very hands-on with teaching stations to explore.

We said good-bye and went back to Poplar while the Newtons overnight-ed there then traveled all day to Island Park in Yellowstone.

Memorial Day 2014

We just had to go visit Chicken Hill again on Memorial Day to see it in all its glory.

Notice how most grave are outlined in fencing, boards or rocks.  All of the flowers are artificial.

Often the deceased favorite items are place on the grave.  The Natives believe it will allow them to enjoy them in heaven too.

We notice several graves had personal messages newly written on a rock or board.

Another Elder leaves us

Elder Short's stay in Poplar was short.  He was transferred to Billings.  We really enjoyed him.  We loved how he would teach parts of the missionary lessons especially for the young children.  We will really miss that he was excellent at computer repair.  Now that he has left our FREE Computer Repair business is on hold as the new Elder doesn't do computers.  We have told the customers that if they are willing to wait for a long turn around we can try to get the computer to Elder Short and back to them in a month or six weeks.

Youth and Families Cookout

For Youth Night this summer four big events have been planned.  The first was a cookout at the Branch where the kids could invited family members held on May 20, 2014.

Elder Wyatt helped cook up 150 burgers and 80 hot dogs, and everyone of them was eaten.  Even some dogs joined us, but they were gentle dogs laying there just waiting for someone to toss them a piece of meat.

It was fun to meet the parents or grandparents of some of our regular attender youth.

The weather was very good for a May outing.

Elder Allsop checks to see if the drinks are holding out as Jessica on the left and Haley on the right go for another one.

Before it was all over the kids learned that a water bottle with a hole punched it it makes a good water-fight weapon.

Elder Keith hangs out with some of the best gigglers in the group, the girls.

A new game was introduced by the older young women.  It is called SIGNS, and if you have ever played it you know you have to be quick and alert.

Our first event was hugely successful.
